GitHub has made Copilot available in JetBrains Air and Xcode's coding assistant, and updated task management in the app, CLI, and VS Code. Developers can use agents, programs that work on their behalf, in familiar environments. Conversations, reviews, and recurring tasks are also easier to manage.
1. Manage multiple agent tasks inside development tools
Copilot in JetBrains Air lets developers track multiple agent sessions and run tasks. Tasks run locally in a JetBrains IDE or in the cloud through Air Teams, using an existing Copilot subscription.
Copilot is now directly available in Xcode's built-in coding assistant. Xcode users can try it within their existing assistant workflow. Both integrations reduce the need to move to a separate environment to use agents.
2. Less effort spent waiting for merges and organizing conversations
In the Copilot app, users can enable Agent Merge on a pull request to have Copilot merge code changes when ready. The setting stays enabled even while required checks or rules are pending.
Users can also check reviewer status on a pull request or request additional reviews. They can select part of a comment to quote or discuss with Copilot, making it easier to bring review content into a conversation.
When a conversation reaches its context limit, the maximum amount of information it can reference, users can compress it or inspect what takes up space from the error screen. This offers a way to tidy up and continue the current conversation rather than start over.
Session cleanup is easier too. Users can archive pinned sessions for merged or closed pull requests, and pin or unpin multiple sessions at once. Nested conversations, which contain other conversations, can also be separated without losing their content.
My Work, which organizes task lists, now supports saving more than 10 custom views. Users can manage not only conversation sessions but also task browsing views in greater detail.
Dragging a file onto the new session item in the sidebar starts a session. CSV and TSV files open as tables with fixed headers and also offer a raw view, giving users a choice of how to inspect their contents.
3. Search command-line settings in one place
In Copilot CLI, /settings opens a unified dashboard. Users can manage tool connection settings, including plugins and MCP servers that provide tool connections, and search all settings in one place. Instead of hunting for individual settings, they can find what they need on a single screen.
4. Inspect remote work and schedule recurring runs
VS Code 1.145 adds features to tidy up conversations or inspect their details. An experimental chat view mode lets users collapse or expand reasoning, the internal steps used to derive answers. They can also do this for tool calls, requests to execute external functions, without opening a new conversation.
The Agents window offers previews of remote apps for agent tasks running on other computers, plus an interactive canvas for direct on-screen control. Enabling remote browser support and the canvas in settings lets users inspect remote work without leaving the editor.
Recurring tasks can be scheduled as local automations using cron expressions that specify execution times and custom agents in the workspace. This helps developers who want to run the same task on a set schedule.
Files such as screenshots and screen mockups can be added to a conversation without moving them into the workspace. Users can select files from the conversation's add-context menu.
Earlier terminal output in long conversations is rendered when expanded or displayed, rather than loaded all at once. Showing the output currently being viewed first refines the experience of reopening long conversations.
5. More automation means choosing approval boundaries yourself
These changes broaden development tool options and reduce effort spent on merge waits, session cleanup, and recurring runs. In local sessions, personal instructions can specify which tool requests to approve without asking. Fewer approval prompts add convenience, but users must decide the scope of automatic approval.
The Xcode integration is available in public preview starting with Xcode 27.3 beta. VS Code's remote app previews and canvas are also in preview. Adding files to conversations supports only images in cloud sessions.
This Copilot update focuses on expanding agent management within familiar development environments and workflows.
